Merv Bishop
Elders Of Liverpool
Working closely with the local Indigenous community, Merv Bishop has created 12 black and white, large-scale portraits of Indigenous Elders that express their strength, knowledge and generosity.
Born in Brewarrina, NSW in 1945, Merv has had a diverse and extraordinary professional photographic life that has spanned more than 40 years. He has photographed celebrities such as the Rolling Stones and Roy Orbison and, during his time working for the Commonwealth Department of Aboriginal Affairs, documented the historic moment when, in 1975, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam returned Aboriginal land to Gurindji tribal elder Vincent Lingiari.
The Elders photographs will be acquired by the Liverpool City Art Collection
