Entries for the prestigious 2012 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Awards are now open and we want to see your work.

Proudly presented by the Walkley Foundation and the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance, The Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Awards are all about recognising excellence in young journalists. It is the only event of its kind celebrating Australian journalists aged 26 and under.

The overall winner will jet off on a three-week trip visiting newsrooms in London and Atlanta. The Walkley Young Australian Photographer of the Year will receive a Nikon 1 – an intelligent camera system crafted to bring new levels of speed, simplicity and enjoyment to photography.  

Awards are in five categories: print, television, radio, online and photography. The judging panel will draw up a shortlist of three finalists in each category before selecting one of those category winners for the main accolade of Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year. Winners will be announced at a special event in Sydney on Wednesday June 20.

Who can apply? The awards are open to ALL Australian journalists aged 26 and under (on March 16, 2012), whether you’re employed full-time or freelance.

Are you in your final year at uni? You can enter too! But your work must have been published or broadcast through Australian media outlets between March 16, 2011 and March 16, 2012. Visit the website https://youngjournalistawards.alliance.org.au/ for all the entry details and entry forms.
