Head On Photo Festival, is proud to announce, for the first year, the Head On Landscape Prize. Included under the Head On Awards, which also includes the prestigious Head On Portrait Prize and the newly introduced Head On Momento Photobook Awards, Head On now present more options for emerging and established photographers to exhibit their work under its banner.

Head Off approach to the ‘Landscape’ is very broad. This approach encompasses ‘large vista’ images of natural environment (land or sea), urban or industrial settings. It may include people but these should be ‘incidental’ rather than the main subject matter. We are looking for ‘strong’ images rather than ‘pretty’ ones.

20 finalists images selected by a panel of judges will be on display at Paddington Reservoir Gardens. Of these finalists, a winner will be chosen by the judges and announced at the festival opening night  17 May 2013, at the State Library of NSW.

Total prize pool for all Awards valued at over $80,000
Every finalist receives a prize
Landscape Prize finalists will have the cost of printing their work covered by Head On

Jason Edwards
Photographer & Presenter of Pure Photography
National Geographic Channel

With an image portfolio ranking among the largest of any photographer in the National Geographic Society’s long history, Melbourne-based photo journalist Jason Edwards is the face of Pure Photography on National Geographic Channel.

This series of natural history vignettes accompanies him on assignment as he chronicles the world’s natural wonders through a lens.

Redefining documentary photography over the course of more than 20 years, Jason’s commissioned assignments having taken him to every continent, with the resultant work appearing in hundreds of publications including National Geographic Magazine, Australian Geographic, Sports Illustrated, BBC Wildlife Magazine, The New Yorker, and Conde Nast Traveller.

Jason’s fine art prints are archived in private collections around the world and have been exhibited in the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Europe, where National Geographic also presented his compelling imagery from India at the prestigious Visa Pour L’Image Photojournalism Festival.

Jason’s reputation for self-reliance and his ability to adapt has seen him placed on assignment in some of the most remote areas. He is an extremely experienced field photographer yet adapts well to commercial assignments where strict briefs are required to create specific imagery. His love of the less developed regions of the planet adds to the feeling of exploration and discovery that clients view in his images. His ability to depict even well known subjects in a unique manner has separated his images from the mainstream.

With an Honours degree in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Scientific Photography and tertiary qualifications in the Animal Sciences, Jason is an author of science education books, and his imagery has appeared in everything from environmental campaigns to Hollywood blockbusters.

As a corporate speaker Jason champions the plight of the environment, indigenous peoples and the art of photography.
