These photographs are a small selection from an extended photo essay on Jabalpur, a small yet populous city situated in the geographical heart of the Indian subcontinent.
Here, I have been living and working as a visual artist/photographer, for the most part of the last 5 years.

Photography has allowed me to engage with not only the people and culture of the place, but also with the whole poetic plethora of animate and inanimate features that give the place its unique character. Though the subjects I am interested in may seem banal and commonplace to the Jabalpur locals, this couldn’t be further from the truth for this enthralled and smitten Sydneysider.

The selected photographs highlight my quest to capture and share this unique poetry that I experience in daily life while living in Jabalpur; and to decipher the surreal and often humorous juxtapositions – the uncanny in the banal and mystery in the commonplace.
