This project explores how different buildings invite different perspectives. When we photograph a building, the meaning behind the image is as determined by our viewpoint as by the building itself and how the camera has been used to capture it. A building is what it is, but its character is also influenced by its surroundings and in what conditions we view it.
The series depicts various infrastructures, from apartments, self-standing residences, an old iconic hotel, a barn barely visible in the open countryside, and at least one somewhat mysterious building that is hard to categorise.
My interest has always been in urban landscapes, often captured in low light. I take many photographs using a telescopic lens, adding drama to the image. As a technique, it calls for a greater distance between myself and the subject, but it avoids the disappointing tendency of wide-angle shots making a molehill out of a mountain. I find image-enhancing software essential to accentuate what interests me in an image, occasionally using this to combine concepts from several photographs.
