Gosh You’re Gorgeous is pleased to present the exhibition Fractured Fairy Tales. The artists, Yvonne Larkins & Heather Williams are Diploma graduates of NADC in Photo Imaging. They both share a fascination with the childhood stories and fantasies they grew up with. They love castles and magic and mystique.
Although childhood is depicted as all sunshine and lollipops, the stories of old were actually quite grim tales and they want to also explore the darker side of the stories that have been passed down through the years. There is always a back story which we don’t often hear when being raised on the folk lore which is part of our childhood. Through the years, the original dark tales of good versus evil have been sanitised to suit a society that only wants to see the light side of everything but in reality, every good story needs the contrast of dark and light. Fractured Fairy Tales explores that balance. Light versus dark. Good versus evil. Magic versus mundane.
